As the story was told to me (Chris) pop-pop took over the management of the Columbian Warehouse at 5th and Laurel streets in Reading at a time when the principal owners were the Archers. They had talked their friends into buying stock in the warehouse and were losing money. He found out that one of the employees was embezzling funds and thereby saved their (the Archers) reputation. Uncle John later was hired by the Archers to help with their affairs (driver, shopper, etc) when the Berkshire Knitting Mills began to cut back on employees as a result of full-fashioned hosiery going out of style. Matthew was born on 14 September 1881. He was the son of Edmund(Edward) F. Gibney and Amelia Haghan. He married Gertrude Anna E. Arnold on 28 June 1906. Matthew died on 19 July 1969 at 130 Park Road Wyomissing PA at age 87.
